PPIs can modify the kinetic properties or the substrate specificity of enzymes, but also allow the substrate channelling in several metabolic enzymes and the formation of the new binding site for small effector molecules. PPIs establishment is a common mechanism to inactivate or activate a protein at either the upstream or downstream level, playing a pivotal role in almost all cellular processes and classifying them as attractive targets for drug discovery. Therefore, the modulation of PPIs through molecules acting as disruptors or stabilisers is a promising strategy for the treatment of various human diseases.

ScienceS@Si will start at 2.30 pm (GTM+2) on July 21st as a virtual event.
