He is also accredited in social psychology and social-sexology. Veenhoven is emeritus professor of \u2018social conditions for human happiness\u2019 at Erasmus University Rotter\u00addam in the Netherlands, where he is currently involved in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eur.nl\/ehero\">Erasmus Happiness Economics Research Organization<\/a>. Veenhoven is also a special professor at North-West University in South Africa, where he is involved in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.optentia.co.za\/\">Optentia<\/a> research program. \u00a0He is director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/worlddatabaseofhappiness.eur.nl\/\">World Database of Happiness<\/a> and a founding editor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.springer.com\/social+sciences\/quality+of+life+research\/journal\/10902\">Journal of Happiness Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Veenhoven\u2019s research is mainly on \u2018happiness\u2019 in the sense of subjective enjoyment of life. One strand of his research is \u2018happiness and public choice\u2019, the purpose of which is to build an evidence basis for policies that aim at greater happiness for a greater number. Another research line is \u2018happiness and private choice\u2019 and the purpose is here to built an evidence base on which individuals can draw when faced with major life choices, such as having children or early retirement.
