It is one of the nation&#8217;s most visited tourist attractions. Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice a year.<\/p>\n<p>The Palio di Siena is a horse race that is held twice each year, on 2 July and 16 August, in Siena, Italy. Originally called Studium Senese, the institution was founded in 1240. The department is housed in the building of San Niccol\u00f2, formerly the monastery of San Niccol\u00f2, whose construction dates back to 1336. The building was used as a psychiatric hospital from 1818 to 1999.
