Mariano Rojas

Mariano Rojas is President of the International Society for Quality of Life Studies. He coordinated the initiative Measuring the Progress of Societies: A Perspective from Mexico, which was a corresponding chapter of the Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies. He is professor of Economics at Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Sede México and at Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla, Mexico. He got his undergraduate degree in economics from Universidad de Costa Rica, and he has M.A. and Ph.D degrees in economics from The Ohio State University, United States. His areas of research are: Subjective Well-Being, Quality of Life, Economic Development, and Applied Microeconomics. He has published about 100 papers and book chapters on happiness-related issues, as well as two books on happiness: El Estudio Científico de la Felicidad and ¿Puede la Economía dar la Felicidad? He is the editor of the Handbook of Happiness Research in Latin America and the co-editor of the Global Handbook of Quality of Life: Exploration of Well-being of Nations and Continents. He has also edited many books on the measurement and understanding of progress and well-being in Latin America.
